I Cannot Watch. I Simply Cannot.
midnight rants…
January 20th, 2025. The date hangs in the air, heavy and suffocating, a lead weight in my tummy. I can’t watch. I physically, emotionally, cannot bring myself to witness the second inauguration of Donald Trump. Not this time. The sheer horror of it, the chilling premonition of what the next four years will bring, is paralyzing.
This isn't about partisan politics; this is about the erosion of everything I hold dear. This isn't a democracy anymore; it's an oligarchy, a grotesque puppet show orchestrated by tech billionaires whose influence eclipses reason and accountability. Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerberg—their fingerprints are all over this charade, their wealth and power twisting the levers of our government into a grotesque parody of self-governance.
Have you noticed that highly qualified people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and members of other marginalized communities who are in positions of authority are now being dismissed as mere “DEI hires” by Trump and his MAGA cult? Their credentials and experience rendered meaningless? Meanwhile, white men, often lacking even basic qualifications, are waltzing into Trump cabinet positions, their only merit seemingly their loyalty to a man who embodies authoritarian fascism. The implication is clear: we are not worthy. Our excellence is discounted; our contributions are disregarded.
And the plans? The chilling, meticulously crafted plans to dismantle our nation? Trump's brazen ambition knows no bounds. He speaks of invading and annexing Canada, Greenland, Mexico, and Panama—a naked display of imperialistic aggression. He threatens to violate the Constitution, stripping birthright citizenship from those born on American soil. He plans to gut Social Security, welfare, Medicaid, and other vital social programs, condemning millions to poverty and despair.
Obamacare, a lifeline for so many, is slated for destruction. Police will enjoy total immunity, even for unjustified killings. Reproductive rights, already decimated in many Southern states, will be further eroded, leaving women vulnerable and at risk. And the climate crisis, a truly existential threat, is dismissed as a hoax—even as our world burns, literally and figuratively.
America is screwed. That's not hyperbole; it's the cold, hard truth staring me in the face. How can I, in good conscience, watch this inauguration, this coronation of a man who represents everything I oppose?
This isn't mere political disagreement; this is a fight for the soul of our nation. We face four years of relentless propaganda, of systematic oppression, of a dismantling of democratic norms. But we cannot, we will not, succumb to despair. We must resist. We must fight back against this administration and its insidious lies. We must protect what remains of our democracy for the sake of ourselves, our children, and the future of this country. The fight begins now. And although I cannot watch the inauguration, I will be fighting. Every single day.
