When We Fight, We Win!
"The people are the ultimate rulers of our democracy, and the junta that is sitting here is only responsible to them." - Theodore Roosevelt
We did it! You, me, we, THE PEOPLE—our voices were heard loud and clear this week. When the Trump administration tried to sneak through a harmful federal grant freeze, we stood up and fought back. We made our voices heard, and moments ago, the White House budget office rescinded their order, withdrawing the freeze after our passionate outcry. Congratulations to all of us—we made this victory happen!
This is proof, plain and simple, that when we stick together and demand to be heard, we cannot be defeated. The government works for us, not the other way around. As Theodore Roosevelt so eloquently put it, "The people are the ultimate rulers of our democracy, and the junta that is sitting here is only responsible to them." Let that sink in.
The people's power shone through this week. What started as a crazy memo from the Office of Management and Budget, abruptly halting funding for crucial programs like Medicaid, Section 8, & Meals on Wheels, was quickly met with fierce resistance. Two lawsuits were filed on Tuesday questioning the legality of the OMB's overreach, and a federal judge swiftly issued a temporary injunction until next Monday.
But most importantly, regular citizens like you and I picked up our phones, opened our emails, and told our representatives in no uncertain terms that we would not stand for this federal overreach. We would not watch our hard-earned tax dollars sit idle while our communities and our most vulnerable suffered. Our calls flooded the switchboards. Our messages clogged the inboxes. And you know what? They listened.
The President and The OMB has a clear message now: the people reject this attempt to undermine our government's legitimate functions. We reject any attempts to politicize funding for programs that lift up our citizens. We will not see our democracy perverted into authoritarianism.
In the end, they had no choice but to cave. The budget office wiped away their memo like it never happened, and agencies were told to resume business as usual. At this moment, funding and grants are flowing again. Life-changing work can continue, improving lives and communities here at home.
The lesson is clear. When we refuse to be silent in the face of injustice, when we join our voices as one, no fascist force or government overreach is a match. This is the power of THE PEOPLE. Never surrender it.
So the next time you see an outrage that sets your blood boiling, remember this moment. Remember that your voice matters. Your action matters. Because against all odds, pushing back with everything we've got, WE WIN.
Congratulations, friends. We did this. Let's keep showing them our strength. Our fight continues.
