Trump, War, and Us. How Did We Get Here?

Hmph… now why are we in it? We didn’t ask for this!
2

Last night, without Congressional approval or even a shred of transparency, Donald Trump bombed Iran.

Hmph….

No declaration of war. No public debate. No consultation with allies. Just a man—drunk on power, cornered by legal jeopardy, obsessed with vengeance—lighting the match that could spark a regional inferno.

And let’s be clear: this is an impeachable offense. Article I of the Constitution gives Congress the sole power to declare war. Trump ignored it—again. This isn’t strong leadership. This is authoritarianism.

Democrats on Capitol Hill are furious, and rightfully so. But fury without action is just performance. We’ve seen this movie before. And we’re tired.

Because while Trump escalates toward war and Republicans close ranks around him, the Democratic majority in the Senate and House has too often played it safe. Too often failed to meet the moment. Too often confirmed Trump’s appointments when they should have fought tooth and nail.

Let’s talk about that. The Senate Dems allowed these confirmations:

  • Pete Hegseth, a Fox News war hawk with zero diplomatic experience, was confirmed as Secretary of Defense.

  • Tulsi Gabbard, now peddling foreign propaganda from within the State Department, was rubber-stamped.

  • And every single nomination that Trump put forth has questionable backgrounds. By Trump’s own definition, they are all DEI hires.

While Senate Democrats dither, it’s the Democratic governors who are stepping up with clarity and moral courage. From Gavin Newsom in California to JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, Josh Shapiro, Wes Moore, Andy Beshear, and Tim Walz—these leaders are filling the vacuum left by our federal representatives. They’re speaking truth. Mobilizing resources. Giving people hope.

We see them. We salute them.

But our senators and congressional reps? It’s time to stop hiding behind procedure and speak the truth: Donald Trump is a danger to this nation and to the world. PLEASE MEET THIS MOMENT HEAD ON!! If you don’t have a comprehensive strategy to stop him, get out of the way and let someone else lead. Sorry not sorry.

To those reading this with family stationed overseas or living in the region: we see you. We know you’re scared. You’re not alone.

The U.S. State Department has said there will be no direct evacuations from Iran. China is getting their people out. The Trump Administration? They are leaving Americans behind.

Now, take this in:

Yes, this is terrifying. Yes, this is infuriating. But no, we must not lose hope.

This Sunday, we’re encouraging our readers to decompress. Rest. Journal. Cook. Cry. Breathe. Let this be your self-care day.

FAFO Newscast will keep you updated if breaking news drops—we’ve got our ears to the ground and our alerts on. But for now, take a step back. Recharge. Because come Monday?

We fight.

ACTION ITEMS FOR MONDAY:

  • Call your Senators and Reps: Demand impeachment proceedings. Demand a war powers resolution.

  • Support your local Democratic governor if they’re leading with integrity.

  • Share this newsletter with anyone feeling overwhelmed. They need to know they’re not alone.
